LOGGERS HONORED AT
2003 IHLA CONVENTION
Partners Dave Purlee and
Henry Gibson of Salem, Indiana were presented the 2002 Loggers of the Year Award
by Jack Seifert during the Tree Farm Breakfast at the 2003 IHLA Convention.
They produced a million and a half board feet per year on average, and are both
career loggers. Their equipment includes JD 640 and 540 skidders, a skid
stem loader, a JD dozer, and Stihl chain-saws. Standard gear also includes
hard hats, chaps, fire extinguishers, a first aid kit and cell phones. They also
utilize Best Management Practices. They have received extensive training
in safety practices through the Kentucky Master Loggers program and they are
sought after for jobs in Kentucky, Indiana, Illinois and Tennessee. Purlee
and Gibson are active members in their district's Tree Farm Committee and make
regular field day presentations.
