2024 Indiana Tree Farmer of the Year

By Ken Day

Tom and Lynn Webb of Greencastle, Indiana are the 2024 Indiana Tree Farmers of the Year.  They were recognized at the Indiana Hardwood Lumberman’s Association convention in Indianapolis. Their tree farm is 160 acres and located in Putnam County.  They were selected because of their outstanding management of the property and willingness to share their knowledge and experience with others.  They have been in the Tree Farm System for 33 years.

Their forest management has been guided by consulting foresters with a series of management plans over the years and a new plan in 2017.  Over the years they have conducted selection and thinning cuttings, hand and machine planted hardwoods, established pollinator and prairie wildlife planting, conducted timber stand improvements, and performed invasive species control. The objective has been to foster a healthy forest and landscape.

They have hosted the Greencastle Garden Club and the Putnam County Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) members on informative tours of the property.  In the past they have been recognized as Woodland Conservationist of the Year Award by Putnam County SWCD in 1999 and 2019, and

Woodland Management Award by the Sycamore Trails Resource Conservation and Development (RC&D) in 1992 and 1997.  Tree Farmer of the Year is sponsored by Indiana Tree Farm.
